RACING SCIOCOLA’

Matteotti square – Events Area

An exposition will be on from Friday to Sunday, a majestic work of art created by the master chocolate maker Mirco della Vecchia and his team of collaborators for which 20 quintals of chocolate were used, a tribute to Michael Schumacher on his fiftieth birthday. A 1: 1 scale reproduction made entirely of chocolate from the Ferrari single-seater F2004. Chocolate was kindly offered by Callebaut.

THE LOUVRE OF CHOCOLATE: "Chocolate meets sport"

Matteotti Square – Events Area

Inside the Events Area in Matteotti Square, you can admire, during all the days of the event, the chocolate art works createed by the Master chocolate maker Stefano Comelli, to celebrate this edition’s theme: sport! Come and see the chocolate sculptures of:  the pennant of the Modena Football Club with the colors of the team, a volleyball ball in white chocolate, a tribute to the volleyball player Ivan Zaytsev, the Helmet n. 58 by Marco Simoncelli, which will be donated to the homonymous foundation.

Sciocolino, the sweet and very nice Chocolate Bear, mascot of Sciocola ', will wander in the Historic Center of Modena among the exhibitors and areas dedicated to children, giving hugs and smiles.

CHOCOLATE FACTORY AND COCOA PLANET "Bean [TO] CIOK" - "From the cocoa beans to the tablet"

Davide Appendino, artisan of Turin's chocolate, will guide you on a journey into the world of chocolate on the "Planet Cacao" stand, showing you the plants, the countries of origin and the cocoa pods from which cocoa beans are extracted. The journey will then continue at the "Bean [TO] CIOK" Chocolate Factory,through the steps of the creation of an excellent product. A path in which you will be accompanied by a master chocolate maker who will tell, with the help of the relative machinery, the artisanal process that starts from the selection of cocoa beans and ends with the handmade creation of chocolate bars.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS - "Chocolate Factory and Planet Cocoa Bean [To] CIOK"

9.30 am – 12.00 Matteotti Square – Events Area

A fun educational chocolate workshop by Davide Appendino, artisan of Turin chocolate. In this event the primary school classes will be able to learn and put into practice some of the processes that lead from cocoa beans to chocolate bars. Each group will discover the artisan path of creating the nectar of the Gods. Led by a Master chocolate maker, they will go through a surprising journey inside the Chocolate Factory,  among cocoa plants and fascinating machinery with different functions, and will then be able to put into practice the teachings, armed with aprons, with a fun "hands-on" workshop that will allow them to play deepening the knowledge of cocoa beans and their transformation.

WORKSHOP L 'INFIORATA - "Tribute to the great Ayrton Senna"

An impressive floral display that will be made with the help of the children there. An entertaining and exciting open-air laboratory where children will slowly give color and shapeto this space that will eventually take the form of a great tribute to the Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna in the year in which the 25th anniversary of his death.

CHOCOLATE FACTORY "Bean [TO] CIOK" - The secrets of roasting

The roasting of cocoa beans is a fundamental moment in processing, because it is at this stage that cocoa develops and fully enhances its aroma. A different roasting procedure can give rise to very different scents in the final chocolate, which is why there are some factors to keep in mind during this process, such as the characteristics of the type of cocoa employed or the type of product to be obtained.

The tempering is an operation that may seem easy at first sight, but that instead conceals several pitfalls. It is in fact an extremely technical and delicate procedure, the success of which affects the final result: a good tempering is indeed essential to prevent the chocolate from covering, over time, with an anesthetic white patina.

The activity involves the creation of a Halloween themed paper puppet. Children, starting from a template provided by the teachers of Pingu's English Modena and following their instructions in English, will build a puppet in the shape of a ghost, a pumpkin, a vampire, thanks to which they will be able to learn and deepen words related to colors, stationery (paper, glue, scissors) and about the Halloween night.

The goal is to provide a first approach to a second language through a playful and engaging activity and at the same time learning-by-doing.

How to turn cocoa bean grains into cocoa paste? Through refining which, according to tradition, is a procedure that should be carried out using a stone mill. It is not just a matter of remaining faithful to the working methods of the past, but also of guaranteeing the chocolate a different consistency, more material and raw.

The best way to guarantee the quality of the final product is to start with a careful selection of the raw material, or cocoa beans, then work them as little as possible. GUIDED TOUR OF the ACETAIA COMUNALE

10.30 am, 11.30 am, 3.30 pm, 4.30 pm, Palazzo Comunale

Located in the attic of the municipal building, it houses three sets: two smaller, with six small barrels each, which took their names from the river Secchia and Panaro and one from ten barrels named after the Ghirlandina Tower. There are also several objects related to the culture of vinegar, including four tragni, the traditional vast glazed earthenware to preserve the Vinegar. 

Participation fee: € 2 per person - Single ticket at a cost of € 6 which includes visits to: Torre Ghirlandina, Halls of Town Hall, Acetaia Comunale, Duomo Museums

Free admission for children up to 5 years, for the disabled and their carers, for guides and interpreters, for teachers accompanying classes of every order and level

Reservations are not possible. For each shift there are 20 seats, registrations are collected in order of arrival until seats are exhausted.

Located in the attic of the municipal building, it houses three sets: two smaller, with six small barrels each, which took their names from the river Secchia and Panaro and one from ten barrels named after the Ghirlandina Tower. There are also several objects related to the culture of vinegar, including four tragni, the traditional vast glazed earthenware to preserve the Vinegar. 

Participation fee: € 2 per person - Single ticket at a cost of € 6 which includes visits to: Torre Ghirlandina, Halls of Town Hall, Acetaia Comunale, Duomo Museums

GUIDED VISIT TO THE MUNICIPAL PALACE OF MODENA

Built from 1634 on a design by the Roman architect Bartolomeo Avanzini, the palace hosted the Este court for more than two centuries until the last Duke Francesco V of Austria-Este (1859). The building now houses the prestigious Military Academy of Modena. The visit includes: The Cortile d'Onore, the Scalone d'Onore, the Loggiato, the Appartamento di Stato, the Historical Museum of the Military Academy, with weapons and armor, memories, memorabilia and militaria (flags, uniforms, drums).

COOKING LABORATORY FOR CHILDREN - "Chocolate banana pops"

The Chocolate Festival could not miss a cooking class in English! Teachers from Pingu’s English Modena will guide the children in preparing a chocolate treat. All you need is a toothpick, a banana, chocolate and some toppings to decorate: you're done! The special ingredient that will make Banana Pops even better? English!

The goal is to provide a first approach to the second language through a playful and engaging activity and at the same time learning- by-doing.

WHITE PARADE

The White Parade is a traveling show of "angels without wings" in white tailcoat that together with their ladies parade accompanied by a scenic musical machine. Waders move through the streets in a dreamlike atmosphere and wear imposing white costumes.

“Oscar Sorgato. Tenera è la luce. Un protagonismo del chiarismo”

The exhibition reconstructs the human and artistic vicissitude of the painter of Modena origins, Oscar Sorgato who carried out his brief career almost all in the fervent artistic climate of Milan in the thirties. The exhibition is accompanied by the sound stories written by Andrea Vitali and Roberto Barbolini inspired by two works by the artist.

“Fiori vintage. Abiti e accessori 1920 – 1980”

The exhibition shows the theme of flowers through twentieth-century fashion. Cocktail dresses, evening and day, are evidence of the everlasting success of the floral motif that has spanned the centuries; from the ancient fabrics of the prestigious Gandini textile collection, among the most important in Italy, which includes specimens from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, up to the creations of the tailors of Modena and Bologna and to the prestigious names in Italian fashion.

 

 

“Storie d’Egitto. La riscoperta della raccolta egiziana del Museo Civico”

The small exhibition tells the stories of Egypt that emerged from the research project, from collecting events to diagnostic investigations of mummified remains. Also exhibited is the installation "Face to face with the mummy", created for the Festivalfilosofia, with a hypothesis of reconstruction of the face of a child's mummy.

“Bici davvero! Velocipedi, Figurine e altre storie”

A long journey of two centuries in the history of the bicycle, told through 350 pieces, including albums and stickers dedicated to this revolutionary vehicle, a symbol of freedom. Among the curiosities, a section that celebrates Fausto Coppi, a hundred years after birth, and a series of vintage bicycles, such as the penny-farthing of the late nineteenth century.
